Old Testament

Shiloh

A warning to look to God and the peace of God: “‘God said, “Because these people have rejected the quiet waters of Shiloh Brook and tremble before King Rezin and King Pekah, I, the Lord, will bring the emperor of Assyria and all his forces to attack Judah. They will advance like the flood waters of the Euphrates River, overflowing all its banks.'” (Is. 8:6-7)

I love that — “the quiet waters of Shiloh Brook.” It’s contrasting with “the flood waters of the Euphrates River, overflowing all its banks.” If the people had trusted and taken in delight in the life-giving waters of Shiloh, they would not be drowning in the flooded Euphrates. The waters of Shiloh come from an underground spring which flow into a quiet pool. “…a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills.” (Deut. 8:7).

I want my life to look like that! To be a quiet pool of trust and beauty fed from the springs of God.
