Personally encounter Jesus

This is one of my imaging prayers. My only responsibility is to show up in silence with God and ask if He has a vision for me. He almost always does.

This one started in a swamp. All of the action is the Holy Spirit’s; I make nothing up.

I am walking through a swamp and I’m wearing really good boots; I love those boots. Then I started to sink. I wasn’t in danger, but the only way I could get out was to leave my boots behind in the sucking mud. I’m pissed! All of a sudden, Jesus appears. I say, “Oh Lord, I’m so glad You’re here. I don’t want to leave my boots in the mud!”

What does He do? He shoots me up out of the water! I’ve got my boots and I’m jetting upwards 40 feet in the air, and then He brings me back down again, and I land gently right next to Him. I am cracking up, and so is He.

The interpretation? I had started my spiritual direction ministry but felt stuck, and I didn’t know how to get free without just stopping the valuable work I was doing. Jesus was saying, “I’ll free you in an exciting, clear way that you would never have thought of. Boots intact. Listen to me. Watch for me.”

This wasn’t a daydream or wishful thinking.

The Lord who created and is not bound by space and time will speak with you.

Experience Healing and Restoration

Shirley is a friend and client for prophetic spiritual direction. I had a vision for her of herself as a young girl. She was alone in a classroom.

My vision ended there. I told Shirley what I saw, and then stayed silent while the Holy Spirit met with her.

She remembered her early years of being a very sensitive child, who often felt rejected by others. In her imaging prayer, she sat alone in a shadowy classroom. The hallway was even worse: it was completely dark. The only other thing she could see was the darkened hallway outside the door. She remembered wishing that Jesus would be there for her.

And all of a sudden, in her adult imaging prayer, He was. The hallway was dark, but Jesus was a shining figure with a glowing halo. He was her light; encouraging her to come out and travel with Him, not be stuck in that shadowy classroom anymore.

And she did.

Break through Blocks to Christ’s Work in You

Meg, another client and friend, had a difficult childhood. She loved the Lord, but as she grew up it was hard for her to perceive of a loving heavenly Father.

When we met, the Holy Spirit gave me a vision of the meadow in the 23rd Psalm. I told her what I saw and then was quiet while she met with the Holy Spirit… and simply sat in the meadow with her loving Savior.

Over the next year, she visited that same Psalm and meadow many times. Jesus always met her there. And in time, she learned that she could call God her Father with love and without fear. Today, she calls Him Papa God.
