Do You Really Want to Hear What God Is Saying?

Of course, faithful Christian women want to hear God. We talk all the time to Him. It’s good to hear back once in a while!

I don’t mean that flippantly, we are desperate to hear God. But two things tend to get in the way:

  1. We are so stressed with trying to hear God, that our stressed selves don’t know how to get into a state of silence so we CAN hear.
  2. We expect God to answer our questions; if we didn’t need to know, we wouldn’t ask.

But the answer we THINK we need may not be the one He KNOWS you need.

Why Isn’t He Answering?

Maybe the reason the Lord isn’t answering is because there’s something else you need to learn first. But you can’t hear Him, because you’re concentrating so hard on what you think you need to know, that you drown Him out.

The great prophet Elijah went through this. He was desperate for an answer, but God was silent. Elijah screamed that powerful people were trying to kill him, and God was silent–or not. Because when Elijah was able to hear God’s still, small voice, everything changed. The Lord answered him with the unexpected, and it was glorious.

Go Quiet and Listen

Getting quiet to hear Him isn’t a trick on His part. It’s not a drill. It’s Him loving you so much that he will lead you on the right path that you didn’t know to ask for.

Your path may be surprising, unsettling, even life changing. As a spiritual director and faith adventure guide, I work with Christian women who sense God inviting them into something more. We listen deeply to God: first through Scripture (always through Scripture!) and prayer and keeping silence before the Lord as He speaks… and then all heaven breaks loose!

If you feel the stirring, reach out to me at chris.taylor@doctorchris.org. No pressure from me; this is all Him. We’ll talk and pray and listen. And the Lord will speak.
