God Can Be Really Funny
Most of the time when I ask for guidance I expect to live into it. That’s as it should be: the guidance of God is not only about what he wants us to do, but who we become in the process of listening and doing God’s will.
But sometimes he just answers us. I don’t know why I think that’s so funny. It’s holy laughter mind you, but it cracks me up!
This happened today. I took today as a personal retreat day to seek God’s will about my writing business and my speaking and writing ministry. (The business is marketing writing for the technology market and the ministry is teaching, speaking and writing about our walk with God.)
I sought God’s will about what my business and ministry’s daily activities should be. There are tons of good daily business activities I could be doing but I would need 40 hours EVERY DAY to do them all. I need to pick the right ones but I get very confused about what they are. So I went into silence ready to pray over this. At once I very clearly heard “Proverbs 16.”
“OK,” I said. I don’t know Prov. 16. I looked it up and guess what the FIRST VERSE is? “To man belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the reply of the tongue [their fruition].”
The whole chapter is like that. Verse 3? “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” Etc. Well OK then! I’ll make the best plans I know how, I’ll do them faithfully, and God will do the rest. Amen!
