Real Imaging Prayer
I talk a lot about imaging prayer but I realize that I don’t necessarily talk about it in detail on my feed. That’s not a deliberate decision since I practice and lead imaging prayer all the time. I guess I just hadn’t thought about sharing them. Mine, anyway.
Please note that although many religions and philosophies practice meditation, contemplation, and visualization, imaging prayer is specifically Christian contemplative prayer using the sanctified imagination. Which yeah, is a mouthful. It’s different because we believe that the Holy Spirit directly grants the imaging prayer, whether it’s still images, a narrative, or words.
And although any believer can learn and practice imaging prayer, I work with women who take their faith seriously and want to grow in the Lord.
So! Without further ado, here is one of my imaging prayers.
“The Stand”
I’ve climbed up a tall mountain. I’m dressed for the desert in robes and heavy sandals, head veil, and face covering. My sleeves are voluminous and long enough to cover my hands. It’s a good thing because there is a strong wind blowing from the east. If I didn’t have my protective clothes on, the stinging sand would hurt.
I stand on the narrow peak of that spire of a mountain and gaze down at the desert below me. I can see a very long way. As I’m looking and waiting to see what the Lord does. I sit down while I’m waiting but quickly get back up again, because I should stand up on holy ground. Expectantly, I gaze down at the desert floor and wait, knowing He is doing a great thing.
I did not make this up. I had no previous imagery. I just knew the Lord was going to speak into my circumstances, and He did.
The interpretation? Personally, there’s a lot to unpack. Remember that I didn’t make it up; it’s the Holy Spirit’s direct word to me. And His main point is this: “Beloved, watch and wait. The desert will bloom.”
If you’re a Christian woman with a mature faith, you can do this too. Reach out to me on Facebook or by email and let’s talk to the Lord together!
