Where is God in Your Chaos?
He’s Right There.
I led an imaging prayer session this morning. I love receiving the image the Holy Spirit wants my clients to experience, then leaving them in silence as they work directly with the Lord.
Priceless.
Today’s image was, as always, a surprise to me. (I don’t make these things up.) Today’s image started off in the chaos of a stock trading floor. I described the image, then left them to it to experience what the Holy Spirit had for them this morning.
When the women shared their imaging prayers for interpretation, the Lord had removed some of them from the chaos into expansive peace.
Others, including me, were obviously supposed to stay within the chaos—and God stayed too, gifting peace and purpose within the crazy.
Are You in Chaos?
Chaos and uncertainly happen to everyone at some time or another. You may be hit with the unexpected or unwanted: a child rebels, or a marriage fails, or you’re laid off, or a business fails, or you get seriously ill. Even a positive event like moving or building a business brings its own chaos with it.
If you listen amid the chaos, the Lord will tell you one of two things:
1. He wants to remove you from the chaotic situation because you don’t belong there. He’ll bring you out IF YOU LET HIM.
2. He’s not going to remove you from the chaotic situation because you DO belong there. He’ll do His great work in you IF YOU LET HIM.
Did you catch that? IF YOU LET HIM.
Because He won’t make you do anything against your will. That is not in His nature.
But when you mean to follow Him even amid chaotic situations and change, how do you know what He wants you to do? In the words of Clash: “Should I stay or should I go?” (Why yes, I watched the music video this morning. Then I watched “I Fought the Law and the Law Won.” Why do you ask?)
Listening to the Lord about surrounding chaos will tell you what you should do: either leave the situation because you don’t belong there or stay and let God’s peace fill you as you do His will in your circumstances.
Some questions to ask Him and yourself:
o Have I been here before? Is this chaos a way of life for me and it doesn’t change?
o Have friends advised me to leave the situation?
o Has God really asked me to be here, or is He waiting for me to leave?
o Do I have a sense of adventure and purpose in the middle of the chaos?
o Is the Lord meeting me regularly and do I feel His power in the situation?
o Am I reading the Word and asking for the Holy Spirit to guide me?
o Can I quiet my mind so I can hear Him?
DO THE THING
When you’re living in chaotic, uncertain situations then you need to know if you should stay there; and if you should, how the Lord is calling you to peace and authority.
