Our Prayers Never Die

I’m reading the Rev. Mark Batterson’s The Circle Maker: Praying Circles Around Your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears. Terrific book. I’m finishing it up and loved the following passage from the next-to-last chapter, pp. 207-208. By the way Batterson is quite orthodox and I have taken the passage a little out of context, so ignore any “woo woo” factor. This is Christian doctrine at its best:

“So is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” (Is. 55:11)

All prayers are prophecies, and God Almighty seals them until the designated time. He’s never early. He’s never late. When the time comes kairos, not chronos, to prayer will be unsealed and the answer revealed.

At some point, our spoken words ceased to exist because they are subject to the law of entropy. Our spoken words aka sound waves, run into friction and run out of energy. Our prayers, however, are sealed forever. Our prayers never cease to exist because they aren’t subject to natural laws, including the law of entropy. The supernatural laws of prayer defy the natural laws of time and space…

Our prayers don’t dissipate over time; our prayers accumulate through eternity…

His words never return void. Neither do your prayers when you pray the word of God and the will of God. The same God who hovers over the chaos at the beginning of time is hovering over your life, and you never know when his answer will reenter the atmosphere of your life. But you can know this: the Lord is watching over His word to perform it.
